Equipment: pictures, map of Britain, cassette.
1 Students read the instruction. Add that this may be particularly true if the other people are from overseas.
• Ask if students agree with this.
Ask what sort of things people might learn about themselves from someone from overseas.
• Elicit suggestions.
• Tell students they are going to listen to a cassette of someone from overseas talking about Britain.
• Say First, listen for the name, where the speaker is from and why he/she is in Britain.
• Play the cassette.
• Students listen.
• Elicit answers.
Answer key
a) Her name is Helen.
b) She is from Greece.
c) She is studying English.
2 * Divide the class into pairs. Each pair copies the chart. (The chart should take about half a page.)
*Tell students they will hear the cassette again, and while they listen they should complete the chart.
*Play the cassette again.
*Students listen and complete the chart. (One student writes, the other helps give the information.)
*Check the answers.
*Play cassette again as necessary.
3 *Ask ‘What does Helen like and dislike about Britain?’
*Elicit answers.

the mealtimes or the closing time for shops etc.
NOTE
Make sure students use the ‘s’ on likes and do not add ‘s’ to doesn’t like.
4 *Remind students that people from overseas also have opinions about their country.
*Ask ‘What things do you think people from overseas like and don’t like about (your country)’?
*Students write these down.
*In pairs, students look at each other’s ideas.
EXTRA ACTIVITY
Class’s discussion. Some students express their ideas to the class. Others agree or disagree. Students should give examples of opinions they have heard, if any.
HOMEWORK
Write a short composition ‘People’s likes and dislikes as for Great Britain’.
